Antique snowmobiles Super Rallye

Every year, hundreds of antique snowmobiles participate at the tournament throught the woods.

 

Mid-February 2010

Polar Challenge des Minounes

This 50 km snowmobile ride passes through the forest on a surfaced trail but off the federated trails.  It focuses on the participation of antique snowmobiles and not on the speed and performance.  The event takes place in a friendly atmosphere.  Race winners are determined by a freelance card (poker) and participants share more than $5,000 in prizes.

Chibougamau Inter-Regional Bowling Tournament

This High calibre competition takes place in the Salle de quilles Bolorama and attracts more than 300 people.  Men and women from different regions across Quebec compete for up to $30,000 in prizes.  Quebec’s best bowlers come and measure their talents against locals from Chibougamau.  Come and see these great bowlers compete, it’s worth the trip.

James Bay Walleye Festival

Fishing is my passion, The James Bay Walleye Festival is my destination!  Family activities and shows for everyone are part of the biggest fishing tournament in Quebec.  With more than $110,000 in prizes and money, everyone is a winner.  Held on Lake Opémiska, 10 km west from Chapais, the site has a large free parking lot, paved boat launches, a welcoming office, washrooms, as well as a walking trail that links to Opémiska campground.  Both amateurs and professionals are invited to heed the lure of the walleye!

First Nations Day

This event is both cultural celebration and bridge to intercultural understanding.  The day begins with a ceremony celebrating the first steps of infants who walk in public for the first time and as a result become part of the community.  This is followed by fun and games where athletes and artisans can display their talents.  These activities are followed by a makoushan – feast where everyone is welcome!

Nautical Festival

The festival takes place on the municipal beach.  Event includes a volleyball tournament, various races on the lake, horseshoe tournament, family treasure hunt, egg toss, and indoor shows and concerts from Thursday to Sunday night.

 

August 6th to 9th, 2010

August Festival

The August festival is the biggest cultural event that takes place in Northern-Quebec during the summer.  It is held in downtown Chibougamau on an outdoor stage.  This very popular festival attracts nearly 5,000 per day for the 4 days of festivities.  More than 75 Northern Quebec artists perform, as well as performances from professional well-known groups.  There is also a Kid’s Day, a fireworks display, a car radio contest, a beach volleyball tournament and much more!

James Bay Horse Festival

In the beautiful setting of the Fenouillet hills, come and participate in one of the numerous horse activities that are part of the festival.  Horse enthusiasts come together for beautiful rides on sand trails, lunches in the forest and friendly competitions in the carousel.  There is a bar on site as well as restaurants that serve traditional cuisine with music and entertainment during the evenings.  Rustic camping and limited lodging available
