The James Bay region is characterized by a cold continental climate with major temperature fluctuations. Winters are long and cold, beginning in October and lasting until April, and the average temperature is -23 degrees Celsius and can reach -35 degrees Celsius. Summers are much warmer, with an average temperature of 17 degrees Celsius and highs of 34 degrees Celsius, and lasts from June until September. Although short, summer does benefit from extended daylight periods that can last up to 18 hours per day.
